Sunseed News
Lately we have being working on soil conservation and vegetal regeneration. Two interventions took place in two Sunseed’s parcels: Alan’s Land and Arizona plot. The interventions consisted of applying “Key Line” technique, a method based on preventing runoff and encouraging the infiltration of water. The water is distributed following a gradient through the organic barriers that we set. This allows the flow of water from areas with high concentration of water (such as gullies) to those with low infiltration (such as slopes). The first intervention took place in a highly eroded gully within Alan´s land. Organic barriers were built out of Cane (Arundo donax) and biomass was used to cover the intervention for preventing water evaporation, soil erosion and encourage the infiltration of water. The method of “Key line” is applied by using an A-frame level. This indicates the gradient (2%) with which the bio rolls are connected to the cane barriers to allow the water to be distributed without eroding towards the nearby slopes.
